What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine - Chinese Medicine Hawaii - Honolulu - Oahu

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese alternative medicine methodology that treats patients by manipulating thin needles inserted into acupuncture points in the skin. By stimulating these points it encourages the body to promote natural healing and improve functioning, by correcting the imbalances in the flow of qi through the channels known as meridians.

What is the scope of Acupuncture?

The system of Acupuncture can influence three areas of health care: promotion of health and well-being, prevention of illnesses, and the treatment of various conditions. While acupuncture and herbs tend to be the treatment of pain or ailments, in the hands of a well-trained practitioner it has much broader applications and is great for overall good health and longevity.

Is Acupuncture safe?

Yes, very safe. Much safer than modern western medicine! Only sterile, pre-packaged disposable needles are used and then disposed as medical waste after one use.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

No, acupuncture does not have to hurt. Hair thin needles are quickly inserted and occasionally a fleeting prick sensation is felt. Most patients are surprised that they feel nothing at all and are amazed by how relaxed they feel during and after the treatment. This can only occur if the treatment is comfortable and gentle.

How many treatments will I need?

This is unique to the individual case. You need to give acupuncture a try at least twice. Results can happen between 1-3 treatments depending on the case. Some people notice an immediate improvement in their health while for others acupuncture tends to have a cumulative effect over several visits. For most chronic conditions, cosmetic acupuncture or fertility cases weekly treatments offer the best outcome.
